KATA & KOBUDO RULES

 

 

The Tournament Director reserves the right to combine and/or divide divisions where he sees fit.

 

KATA RULES

1.      Contestants must perform a Japanese or Okinawan kata.

2.      Beginner and Intermediate Belts must perform basic kata such as: Heian, Pinan, Gekisai, and any other similarly categorized  kata.

3.      Saifa is okay for beginner and intermediate Goju practitioners.

4.      Brown Belts and Black Belts may perform any kata.

5.      If there are five scores, the highest and lowest score is eliminated.  Total Score is the sum of the three remaining scores.

6.      In case of a tie:

  • Compare the lowest scores from the remaining three scores and NOT the low score that was eliminated. 

  • If there’s still a tie, compare the highest score from the remaining three scores and NOT the high score that was eliminated.

  • If there is still a tie after comparing the low and high scores, the contestants must perform another kata.  Beginners may perform the same kata.  All others must perform a different kata

 

KOBUDO RULES

  1. Long and Short weapon combined.

  2. Weapons are subject to inspection by officials.

  3. Loss of control of the weapon shall result in disqualification.

  4. If there are five scores, the highest and lowest score is eliminated.  Total Score is the sum of the three remaining scores.

In case of a tie:

  • Compare the lowest scores from the remaining three scores and NOT the low score that was eliminated.

  • If there’s still a tie, compare the highest score from the remaining three scores and NOT the high score that was eliminated.

  • If there is still a tie after comparing the low and high scores, the contestants must perform another kata.  Beginners may perform the same kata.  All others must perform a different kata.

 

DIVISION CATEGORIES

  • Beginner:  7th Kyu and below

  • Intermediate:  6th , 5th , and 4th Kyu

  • Brown Belt:  3rd Kyu, 2nd Kyu, and 1st Kyu

  • Advance:  black and brown belts combined in a division

  • Black Belt:  black belts only
